Here are just a few of the must see events to consider:
Come enjoy a Halloween celebration at Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center for their Tricks, Treats & Trails event. The entire family can take a stroll on the Trick-or-Treat Trail and encounter wetland wildlife that will tell you about their role in the environment plus give out Halloween treats. The event will also include games, crafts, and face painting sponsored by Columbus State University's College of Education and Health Professions. And if that wasn’t enough for one event, you won’t want to miss out on the presentation on local owls by the Auburn University’s Southeastern Raptor Center. You can watch as rehabilitated owls are released into the wetlands at Oxbow Meadows. The owl presentation will start at 6:00 PM. Then you can end your evening by watching the full moon rise with telescopes from the Coca-Cola Space Science Center from 7:00 – 8:00 PM. The cost for the event is $5 and kids under three are free. The event will be held October 23, 2010 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Oxbow Meadows on 3535 South Lumpkin Road.
If you are searching for the perfect pumpkin to carve this year and love being outdoors, then you will definitely want to visit nearby Dream Field Farms and Pumpkin Patch in Hector, Alabama. Enjoy a fun day at Dream Fields Farm including hayrides, picking pumpkins, getting lost in their famous 5 acre Corn Confusion maze, cow train rides, jumping in inflatable jump houses and feeding the farm animals. It is an ideal family adventure for all ages. The farm is open daily from October 1 – October 31 and also includes live entertainment on Saturdays. Cost of admission is $8:00 for Adults 16 and over, $15.00 for children ages 3 to 16, and free for children under two.
If you are looking for something a little scarier, then the Ghost Walk is a perfect event for you. The event will begin at the Marriott Hotel lobby on Front Avenue where your 1.5 hour lantern lit stroll will begin. The one mile stroll will include tales of ghosts, legends, murder mysteries, haunted houses and paranormal stories of this sleepy Southern town. The event will begin at 8:30 PM on October 28th. The cost to attend is $13.
Another ghost inspired event is the Sea Ghosts: Tours of Haunted Port Columbus which will also be held on October 28th at 8:00 PM. Tour guides will lead candlelight tours highlighting experiences during ghost investigations and the tales of the more chilling artifacts throughout the museum. Tours are available by reservation only and cost $10 per person. For ticket information you can visit the Port Columbus museum’s website or call 706-327-9798. For a more traditional Halloween celebration event, you will want to make plans to attend the 9th Annual Spooktacular Halloween Festival on Broadway in UPtown Columbus. The festival will be held on Saturday, October 30th from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM in the 1000 and 1100 blocks of Broadway.
